Top Five Lower Back Pain Exercises to Combine with PEMF Therapy

According to the American Chiropractic Association, close to 80% of the US population will experience lower back pain at some point in their lives, causing missed work and inability to engage in normal activities. However, standard interventions for back pain are largely ineffective, and may cause serious side effects. Remedies such as bed rest, hot and cold compresses, and physical therapy may require weeks or even months to offer relief, and some treatments can be expensive.  Also, pain medications may require increasingly higher doses over time, leading to drug dependence.

PEMF: An Ideal Alternative Treatment

Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) therapy offers an effective alternative to these approaches. By transferring powerful magnetic energy into your body’s natural magnetic field, PEMF promotes pain relief in the back and various other areas. Unlike other treatments that create weak magnetic fields, PEMF generates fields approximately 10,000 times more powerful than that of an ordinary magnet. PEMF is not designed to treat a specific condition, but acts more like an optimizing agent for the body’s natural self-healing process.

Vigorous Cells Promote Effective Healing

One of the greatest obstacles to proper healing is poor cellular health. We are only as healthy as our cells, and PEMF can be thought of as a powerful cell battery charger. Once the voltage of the cells falls below a certain level, they are unable to heal and fail to function normally. By introducing an electrical current into damaged cells, PEMF therapy:

  • Slows or stops the release of pain and inflammation mediators
  • Increases blood flow to the cells
  • Restores normal cell interactions.

This improved cell functioning in turn leads to reduced soreness and pain, increased energy, and quicker healing of the tissues. With enough voltage and raw materials, the body can heal almost any type of disease or trauma, including lower back pain.

Summary of PEMF Therapy’s Benefits

PEMF therapy has many beneficial effects for overall health, for healing of specific conditions, and for physical performance, including:

  • Less pain in the affected area
  • Reduced swelling
  • Enhanced range of motion
  • Regeneration of damaged tissue, e.g., tendons and bones
  • Improved athletic performance
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Stimulation of cell metabolism
  • Faster injury recovery
  • Increased oxygen in the cells
  • Up to 200% improvement in oxygen absorption
  • Reduction of pain related to lack of adequate oxygen.

Moreover, PEMF therapy is non-invasive and safe for people of all ages. Even after many years of pain, positive results may be obtained after just a few treatments.

Exercise can Reinforce the Effects of PEMF Therapy

To gain even more benefit from PEMF back pain treatment, the following exercises may be helpful.

1. Partial Curls:

  • Lie on the floor and bend the knees, keeping the feet flat and hip-width apart.
  • Cross the hands over the chest.
  • Inhale deeply.
  • On the exhale, pull in the stomach.
  • Gently raise head and shoulders, two inches from the floor while keeping the neck aligned with the spine.
  • Hold for five seconds, then return to the start position.
  • Repeat ten times in three sets.

2. Cat Stretches

  • Get onto the hands and knees with knees hip-width apart.
  • Arch the back, pulling the belly button up toward the spine.
  • Slowly relax the muscles and allow the abdomen to sag to the floor.
  • Return to the start position.
  • Repeat three to five times, twice daily.

3. Draw-in Maneuvers

  • Lie back on the floor with knees bent and feet flat, keeping the arms by the sides.
  • Inhale deeply.
  • While exhaling, pull the belly button toward the spine, tightening the abdominal muscles and keeping the hips still.
  • Hold the position for five seconds.
  • Repeat five times.

4. Pelvic Tilts

  • Lie on the floor with knees bent, feet flat, and arms by the sides.
  • Gently arch the lower back and push the stomach out.
  • Hold for five seconds, then relax.
  • Flatten the back and pull the belly button in toward the floor.
  • Hold for five seconds, then relax.
  • Increase the number of repetitions daily, building up to 30.

5. Bridging

  • Lie on the floor and bend the knees, placing the feet flat on the floor hip-width apart.
  • Press the feet into the floor, keeping the arms by the sides.
  • Raise the buttocks from the floor until the body forms a straight line from the shoulders to the knees.
  • Squeeze the buttocks with the shoulders remaining on the floor.
  • Lower the buttocks to the floor and rest for a few seconds.
  • Repeat 15 times and then rest for one minute.
  • Do three sets of 15 repetitions.

Performing these exercises can help to prevent injury to the back, increase stability, and improve flexibility so that the benefits of PEMF therapy can be maintained. People who experience lower back pain should also pay attention to their posture and how they carry heavy objects to ensure that back issues will not recur.
